Paint to dye the dough is from here.... Paint

Neon paint can also be found at Michaels Craft Store.  However, it is more expensive.  

You can either mix the paint in before you cook it or add it to the dough after.  I added it to the dough after.  Next time I will definitely add it to the mixture before cooking.  

I had some alone time with my 19M old these past few days.  I set this up for her.  She is in love with dough so I thought we would add a new element.  :-) 

This will work under the use of a black light.

Homemade Playdough

Homemade Playdough
1 c. flour
1/2 cup salt
1 T. cooking oil
1 T. cream of tartar
1 c. water
Food coloring of your choice... or throw in a kool-aid packet.
Add-ins of your choice (i.e. spices, extracts, glitter, etc.)

Mix dry ingredients. Add wet ingredients and mix. Add to a pan (I just used a non-stick deep frying pan) and cook over medium-low heat. Stir constantly until dough forms into a ball and isn't wet anymore. This took maybe 2 minutes?? It may sound like a pain in the butt but it was super easy. Take dough out after you have your ball (it will obviously be a little warm) and knead for a minute or two.

Coffee Play-doh

1 cup flour

1/2 cup salt

1 cup used coffee grounds

1/2 cup cool coffee (more or less depending on how wet/dry the grounds are)

This dough produces a wonderful texture and smell.  Yum!

I thought I would update to show Y'all where we are at now.  :-)  

Play-doh is probably the number one used medium in our house.  All three of my girls really enjoy it and play with it on a daily basis.

Here are some ideas for play.  My youngest is now 17 months.  

Homemade Dough

 We first talk about the texture, smell, temperature, etc.

We often use kool-aid or some other sort of extract to give the dough a yummy smell! 

The dough right after cooking is warm to the touch.  You can also throw it in the refrigerator for cool dough.  

Some of the tools that are in my youngest's play dough bucket. 

Toothpicks, beads, clay hammer, "pizza cutter", rolling pin, a few shapes, animals, etc.
